Wandering through a bookstore of any size is my idea of a day well spent. But make that store a quaint, independently owned shop, and it’s that much better. I love the places where the owner sits behind the cash register all day and knows the exact location of every book they sell off the top of their head.
While chain bookstores are great for finding the best sellers on your list, smaller shops are the perfect way to discover the best book you’ve never heard of. Some of my favorite books have come from tiny stores that I’ve stumbled upon. I once found a green leather book lodged in the back of a shelf with no title, and it turned out to be just what I was looking for.
